MADU MONGSO

I'm Indonesian and I feel so very happy to live there because Indonesia has so many delicious food. Snack, desert, main course, etc. It is all so uniqe and it is not just "food" but it is also culture.

ohh yaa a week ago my aunt bring me TAPE, tape is one of traditional snack from java. It's made from black sticky rice and fermentated with yeast. it's tasted lil bit sour and lil bit sweet. but it's not easy to make a good composition. And how pity, I got a not good composition TAPE from my aunt.

And my mother convert this TAPE to the other traditional food, MADU MONGSO. it tasted sweet and lil bit sour. It is wrapped with crepes paper or plastic.

And the composition is :
  • 1000 gram black sticky rice (ketan hitam)
  • 150 gram coconut sugar (gula merah)
  • 50 gram sugar (gula putih)
  • Pandan
  • 750 ml coconut milk from 2 coconuts (750 ml santan dari 2 butir kelapa)
we just have to mix it all on the sauce pan and medium flame, cook it until it is not stick on your pan, until it is oily.



The philosophy value of MADU MONGSO is that javanese hope their life always as the sticky rice of madu mongso, they hope their life is always close each other, no conflict, and also as sweet as the taste of madu mongso. It is Indonesia where everything has their own meaning and it is just like a hope and pray to God.
Madu mongso often served in wedding ceremony. The philosophy of it make madu mongso prefered as the best snack for the wedding couple. they hope their always always be sweet and never be separated. That's why I said that Indonesian food is not just "food" but also culture.
